April 2001 - 1st Taxal Scouts Finish 3rd in the County
Football Competition
The report is by Josh, one of the players. We won. We were...not the champions but the third best...again. We won half our games overcoming many difficulties, including doggy refs, to reach the semi finals where we where outclassed and lost 2-0, they scored the second while we were looking for the equaliser. However at least we lost to the eventual winners. Then came the third / forth place play off. One nil down at half time I, Josh, picked the ball and started running forward with it, it opened up so I shot and I scored, off the underside of the crossbar. We were level. Dam !!!!!!!!! 2-1 down. We start attacking again for the equaliser and this time Josh, not me but a different one, got played through with a beautiful ball and he shot. GOAL!! Then in a tactical move Chris replaced Wes and we held on until extra time. The first half of it was end-to-end stuff but neither team could find a way through. Then in the second half of extra time the ball arrived at Chris's feet, he then shot, he then scored his third goal of the competition and we, for the first time in this match, were winning. It was a lead we were to hold on to until the end so clinching third place... again - we never seam able to win the semis.

February 2001 - County Patrol Leaders' Activity Weekend
This report is by Stephen, one of the Scouts who took part from Taxal. Patrol leaders weekend was
held at 1st Taxal scout hut on the 3rd and 4th of
February. It involved around 70 scouts from around the
county and lots of leaders. There were five activities
climbing, archery, pot holing, a hike and loads of
different activities in the scout hut. The climbing was
done at wind gather rocks where it was cold, wet and
windy, but fun. Archery was in woods in the Goyt valley
where you had to shoot at targets dotted around the wood.
Pot holing was in a small cave near Castleton where it
was wet and full of mud. The hike was a short walk round
the Goyt valley for half a day. The last activity was in
the scout hut where we had to complete lots of different
activities like balancing eight people on a brick. The
food was also great and tasted nice and there was plenty
for Chris. Everyone had a great time. |
